Wood Chests
Wood chests are rectangular shaped objects with four walls and a lift able lid. They are used primarily for storage. The interiors of a chest may be divided. They were initially used for storing fine cloth, weapons, foods and valuable items. During the Medieval times and during the Renaissance, chests were used as benches while tall chests were used as side tables. By placing a chest on a table or any raised surface, the inside of the lid could be used to provide a writing surface while the chest itself could hold the stationery. In Chinese history, chests are mentioned as holding medicines. They could be transported at will to avoid being discovered by the emperors who banned chests. In many games and movies chests are portrayed as containing treasure. Carved or painted chests found in the late Medieval and Renaissance period are known as cassones.
