Chess Board

Chess boards are boards used in playing chess. A chess board consists of eight rows and columns of checks in alternate light and dark colors. The actual colors used for chess competitions are dark green and buff. Boards for home use usually have black and white colors or any other combination of light and dark hues. The material of the board varies a lot. Championships are played on wooden boards. For informal matches vinyl or cardboard boards are used. Chess boards made of marble, glass or ivory and ebony are also available but they are used for home games. Decorative boards are not accepted for sanctioned plays. A chess board is placed in such a way that the rightmost square of the row nearest to the player is a white square. An average chess board is approximately 1.25 to 1.3 times the size of the base of the king.
