Pop Boat Toys

Pop boat toys are also known as steam boat toys, or pop-pop boats. Pop boat toys were invented in the later 19th century. Charles McHugh patented the pop boat in 1916. The working principle of the boat is very simple. An oil flame or candle heats water in a small tube so that it is released as steam. The expansion of the steam causes the boat to move forward. Once the steam has been released, a partial vacuum is created which sucks in more water and the cycle is begun all over again. Pop boats can be made at home using soda cans and straws. The pop boat is extremely popular with children and is manufactured in various countries all over the world. Since the toy is powered by fire, it should always be used under adult supervision.
