Van Art

Rembrandt Harmenszoon Van Rijn was born on October 4, 1669 in Amsterdam. He is generally considered one of the greatest painters in European art history. Van was also a talented printmaker and made many drawings. His contributions to art came in a period that historians call the Dutch Golden Age.

Van art is characterized by

  • Luxuriant brushwork,
  • Rich color, and
  • A mastery of chiaroscuro.

Van art constitutes a vivid record of contemporary Amsterdam life. Van was a master of light and shadow works whose paintings, drawings, and etchings made him a giant in the history of art.

Early work of van art was devoted to showing the lines, light and shade, and color of the people. In 1631, Van art had become very popular. Van became the leading portrait painter in Holland. Van art from this period are characterized by strong lighting effects . In this period, Van art attained fame for landscapes. When Van had no other model to paint, he sketched his own image.

Rembrandt produced approximately 600 paintings, 300 etchings, and 1,400 drawings. Some of the works of Van art are:
