Contemporary Art

Contemporary art concerns recently produced visual art. There is an overlap of usage of " contemporary art " with " Postmodern art ". The phrase " contemporary art " is the favored phrase for serious art that are being currently produced. The field of contemporary art is wide. Almost anything can be considered as "art" here. It has become difficult to say that anything is not art. Contemporary art is primarily descriptive, rather than interpretive.

Indian Contemporary Art is meeting record crowds at global auctions and valuations. Art lovers for this reason are paying more attention towards Indian Arts. Some information on the works of few leading Indian contemporary artist are discussed below:

Abanindranath Tegore

Abanindranath Tagore was born in 1871 in Calcutta. He was the most popular contemporary artist of early years in India. During the 1880s he studied under Olinto Gilhardi and Charles Palmer. Following his increasing interest in Japanese painting, he trained under Yokoyama Taikan on Japanese brushwork . Tagore was skilled at the Calcutta Government College of Art . He exhibited at the Calcutta Government College of Art exhibition, Indian School of Oriental Art, Calcutta, Crystal Palace, London, Grand Palais, the Netherlands & imperial Institute, England, Travelling Exhibition organized by the Indian School of Oriental Art and many more.

M.F. Husain

Muqbool Fida Husain was born in 1915 in Maharashtra. At an early age he learnt the art of calligraphy and practiced the Kulfic khat with its geometric forms. Husain's love of drawing was evident even at this stage.

Husain was noticed for the first time in 1947 when he won an award at the annual exhibition of the Bombay Art Society. He has participated in many international shows which include Contemporary Indian Art, namely Royal Academy of Arts, London 1982; Six Indian Painters, Tate Gallery, London etc.

Bikash Bhattacharjee

Bikash Bhattacharjee was born in Calcutta in 1940. Form his early childhood, the rooftops and back street of north Calcutta where he lived, the variety of people living there wandered a certain magic in his mind. In 1963, he graduated from Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship . Bhattacharjee began teaching at the Government College of Art & Craft. In 1964, he became a member of the Society of Contemporary Artists.
