Agra

Agra- City of Agra is a world famous tourist spot. It is not only famous for the Taj Mahal, but is also known for Agra fort and Buland Darwaza. Numerous sites of historical importance are located near Agra. Agra not only attracts a large number of tourists from India and abroad every year, but it is also famous for its crafts.

The influence of Taj can be seen in the fine carving and inlay work created by the craftsmen of Agra. Fine carving is done on marble, to create jails, panels etc. Jalis are created with carvings done in floral and trellis patterns, which show strong Persian and Mughal influence. Small carved marble boxes and small replicas of the Taj are also produced here.

Agra is known for its chikan work, done on fine cotton. Traditional Indian garments and utilitarian textile material are beautified with fine chikan embroidery.

Agra is also famous for its woolen carpets. The carpets made here, follow the erstwhile Persian traditions, of carpet weaving. A large number of craftsmen are engaged in carpet weaving industry. Agra is also known for its vegetable dyed carpets.
