Wooden Statues of Radha and Krishna

Lord Krishna is the cowherd deity worshiped by Hindus. He is a prince by birth and was raised by landowners to prevent his evil uncle from killing him. Lord Krishna is believed to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. His consort is Radha, who is an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Lord Krishna was believed to have many believers or devotees known as “gopis”. They were essentially cow herd girls. They had unconditional love and devotion for him. Among these gopis, Radha is held highest in honor. Most wooden statues of Radha and Krishna show then leaning against a tree with the Lord Krishna playing the flute. At times they are shown embracing. All the postures of Radha and Krishna show Radha looking up at lord Krishna with adoration while he plays the flute. Large and elaborate statues may show other gopis in the background.
