This clay model from Andhra Pradesh, India, depicts a simple Indian village hut. Mud walls and thatched roof means a humble home for most of the Indians, even today. Colouring modesty with vibrant imagination, are the paintings that decorate the walls and fences. A lazy morning is seen, with the man of the house reading a vernacular newspaper, as the woman draws water from the well. She has her silver pitcher close at hand. Shading the peaceful household is a tree in fruition. The serenity and enrichment characterising Indian villages are aptly conveyed by this traditional Indian work of art.
