If you are the kind of person who likes making different kinds of crafts, then there is nothing better than making a hooked rag rug at home. Hooked rag rugs are a part of interior of many homes. They add color and brightness to a room and attract the attention of every eye.

This is an age old art which began very early and since then the art has evolved and has been taken up as a hobby by many people. These rugs are durable and can be easily washed in the washing machine.

If you make a hooked rag rug at home, it gives you the benefit of selecting personalized design and the colors. This is also the best way to become environment friendly by recycling old clothes or out of fashion clothes. Hand made rag rugs are also a wonderful gift to give to someone.

Incase you do not have ready material at home to make a rag rug, you can visit a second hand shop and buy material which will turn out to be economical. Try to wash all the fabric that you are using at the same temperature before you begin so that you are sure that the colors do not run otherwise one wash may ruin all the hard work that you had put in. Some fabrics also have the tendency to shrink so the wash will also do this. Also try to use one kind of fabric in one rug or else the rug will turn out to be uneven and patchy.

Before you begin, you need to know the basic method to hook. If you are a little familiar with crochet, you will not have any problem. Let us look at a simple method of making a hand hooked rag rug.

Hooked Rag Rug Instructions

Materials required

  • Tapestry Canvas that has 3 holes per inch
