Andhra Pradesh in India has a long and rich tradition of handcrafted toys and dolls. They generally figure episodes and personages from life, legend and mythology. The most popular Andhra Doll, however, is the set of Vishnu Incarnations. Vishnu, the most prominent of the Hindu trinity of Gods, is believed to have ten Incarnations (Dasavatara) in ten different eras. The Avatars are mounted on a triple layered frame. From the top left, we can see Matsya (Fish incarnation), Kurma (Turtle Incarnation), Varaha (boar incarnation), Narasingha (Lion incarnation), Vamana (dwarf incarnation), Parasurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha and Kalki (White horse incarnation, yet to appear). This collectible Ethnic Indian artefact is worthy of reverence and appreciation as well.
