Here, Ragini Devagandhari is potrayed as a love lorn young girl. She, uncovered above the waist but adorned in jewels offers ‘datura’ flowers and jasmine garland on the ‘linga’. She is seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva for the safe return of her love. The ‘puja’ (worship) accessories, mainly the incense burner in the shape of a bird, are conspicuous in the picture.
The painting is based on Raga Devagandhari. It is a rare ancient raga. Historically, it has three forms and is performed in morning hours.
